The scoreboard doesn't lie, but it sure can mislead. Matchday 31 in the Premier League, March 16th, 2026, gave us a bit of everything. From title contenders stumbling to relegation battlers finding a pulse, the table got a good shake-up. *** ### Wolves Hold Arsenal, Title Race Heats Up Let's start with the big one, the kind of result that makes you spit out your pint. Arsenal, flying high, went to Molineux and dropped points, drawing 2-2 with Wolves. You could almost feel the collective groan from North London. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 28th minute, a tidy finish after some slick passing. But Wolves, under Gary O'Neil, are never an easy out at home. They hit back just before halftime through Matheus Cunha, who's quietly having a fantastic season, slotting home from inside the box. The second half was cagey. Arsenal pushed, but Wolves defended with real grit, with Max Kilman putting in a man-of-the-match performance at the back. Then, in the 71st minute, the shocker: Rayan Aït-Nouri, who had been a handful all afternoon, found space on the left and drilled one past David Raya. Molineux erupted. For a few frantic minutes, it looked like Arsenal was heading for a full-blown collapse. Gabriel Martinelli, however, had other ideas, snatching an equalizer in the 88th minute after a scramble in the box. A point rescued, but two points dropped in the grand scheme of things. This draw, coupled with Manchester City's later result, means the title race is now officially a dogfight. Arsenal’s away form has been a little shaky since the turn of the year, a trend Mikel Arteta needs to address immediately if they want to lift the trophy. *** ### Around the Grounds: Upsets and Statement Wins Elsewhere, the drama was just as thick. Manchester City, playing at home, hammered Brighton 4-0. Clinical. Phil Foden, fresh off his Player of the Season shout-outs, bagged a brace, one in the 17th minute and another in the 55th. Erling Haaland added his customary goal in the 70th, taking his league tally to 22. Julian Alvarez rounded it off in the 85th. Message sent. City looks like they're hitting their stride at the perfect time, which is terrifying for everyone else. Liverpool, not to be outdone, also put on a show, beating Everton 3-1 in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield. This one always has an edge, and it delivered. Darwin Núñez, who’s been in superb form, opened the scoring for the Reds in the 12th minute. Dwight McNeil equalized for Everton just before halftime, a rare moment of joy for the blue half of Merseyside. But Mo Salah, as he always does, turned up in the big moments, grabbing two goals in the second half – one in the 58th from the spot, and another in the 76th after a brilliant solo run. Liverpool keeps pace with City, and the top three are now separated by just two points. Chelsea, meanwhile, managed a decent 2-0 win away at Brentford. Not exactly inspiring, but three points is three points. Cole Palmer continued his sensational season, scoring in the 35th minute. Raheem Sterling added the second in the 67th. Mauricio Pochettino will take it, especially after some of their recent performances. Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes got the only goal in the 22nd minute, a typically emphatic finish from the edge of the box. Fulham battled hard, but couldn't find an equalizer. Erik ten Hag’s side needed that win to keep their European hopes alive. Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with West Ham United in a London derby. James Maddison put Spurs ahead in the 19th minute, a lovely curled effort. But Jarrod Bowen, who always seems to score against the big teams, equalized for the Hammers in the 48th. A fair result, probably, but Spurs needed more to solidify their top-four push. Newcastle United edged past Bournemouth 1-0 at St. James' Park. Alexander Isak scored the winner in the 65th minute, his 15th league goal of the season. Eddie Howe's men are still fighting for those European spots. Aston Villa continued their impressive campaign with a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at Villa Park. Ollie Watkins scored twice, in the 10th and 50th minutes, taking his tally to 18. Leon Bailey added a third in the 70th. Divock Origi grabbed a consolation for Forest in the 80th. Unai Emery has Villa punching well above their weight. Finally, Crystal Palace defeated Burnley 2-0 at Selhurst Park. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring in the 30th minute, a moment of individual brilliance. Jean-Philippe Mateta added the second in the 75th. A huge result for Palace, pulling them further away from the relegation zone and putting more pressure on Vincent Kompany's Burnley. *** The title race is down to the wire. My money’s still on City to nick it by a point or two. They've got the experience, and crucially, they’ve got Foden playing like a man possessed.
